This year’s Szerpowie Nadziei (Sherpas of Hope) campaign is the third edition of this extraordinary event. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of cooperation between Škoda and TOPR, we decided we have to be a part of it. As a result, we came to help people with disabilities fulfill their dreams of conquering the Tatra peaks.
Challenge
Together with Škoda Polska, we started wondering how to support this noble initiative. How to use modern technology so that everyone under foundation’s care who arrives in the Tatra Mountains in the first days of September can fulfill the dream of conquering the most difficult tourist trail in Poland?
Approach
First of all, we wanted to help participants overcome the barrier and provide a unique experience of climbing Orla Perć. It is a challenge worthy of professional climbers because it requires excellent physical preparation, exceptional resistance to fear of heights and extensive experience in moving around rocky terrain. The brave ones who decided to face the challenge did it not on their own, but in the company of TOPR rescuers during their patrol.
You wonder, how? We set up a tent with VR stations with a 360 video of the trail route and made it available to people with disabilities. All that was left was to observe the extraordinary reactions of those who dared to climb Orla Perć in the virtual world. The unforgettable emotions that emerged while exploring the famous ridge exceeded our wildest expectations.
Additionally, Škoda provided three electric Enyaqs, fully charged and ready to drive, which had the honor of appearing on the day of the event and helping participants with safe transport.
Participating in the Szerpowie Nadziei campaign was an inspiring experience for us that we will remember for a long time.
